Strength and Conditioning Online Courses

Certificate in Fitness & Conditioning

The Certificate in Fitness & Conditioning is a 9 month, QQI Level 6 (30 credit) qualification. We consider this the entry point to becoming a qualified Strength and Conditioning coach. Consisting of three key modules, the qualification will prepare the coach for work with individual athletes, players and team sports. These modules include:

  • Functional Screening
  • Resistance Training 1
  • Resistance Training 2

Certificate in Youth Athletic Development

The Certificate in Youth Athletic Development is a 9 month, QQI Level 6 (30 credit) qualification. The programme is designed to focus on the knowledge and skills required to become a specialist coach within Youth Athletic Development.

Certificate in Strength & Conditioning

This 18 month course is regarded as the industry standard for specialist Strength and Conditioning coaches. The Certificate in Strength and Conditioning is a QQI Level 6 (60 credit) qualification. Each of the six modules provides a comprehensive overview of key areas and topics within Strength and Conditioning. These modules include:

  • Advanced Resistance Training
  • Speed Development
  • Endurance Development

Higher Certificate in Strength & Conditioning

The Higher Certificate of Science in Strength and Conditioning is a further step along the undergraduate pathway. This QQI Level 6 award combines the six modules of the Certificate in Strength and Conditioning, with a further 6 modules covering a broad range of specialist topics:

  • Anatomy, Physiology & Biomechanics
  • Youth Athletic Development

BSc in Strength & Conditioning

The Bachelor of Science in Strength and Conditioning has now become an industry leading sport coaching qualification. There are 18 modules in total delivered over 4.5 years. This QQI Level 7 award combines the twelve modules of the Higher Certificate in Strength and Conditioning, with a further 6 advanced modules to be covered:

Diploma in Personal Training

Diploma in Personal Training and Strength & Conditioning

The Setanta College Diploma in Personal Training and Strength and Conditioning is a Level 6, internationally recognised, dual qualification. The duration of the course is 10 months with online lectures and 7 practical workshops. Throughout the course you will study 3 modules of Functional Screening, Resistance Training and Advanced Resistance Training, along with the following REPS Ireland approved units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health
  • Applying the Principles of Nutrition
  • Planning & Instructing gym-based exercise
  • Programming & Delivering personal training with clients

Masters Programs

Master of Science in Performance Coaching

A key aim of the programme is to enable practitioners to integrate knowledge from a range of fields into the generation of performance solutions. Practitioners will gain advanced knowledge of the theories and scientific principles that underpin sports performance, exercise and coaching.

This programme includes 6 online modules and 2 separate on-site workshop weeks where you will be brought through the practical applications and sports technology demonstrations.

Master of Science in Applied Sport & Exercise Psychology

This programme has been designed in association with a panel of leading experts from the sport, health & fitness industries. With an industry focus, this programme is highly practical and applied, teaching many skills and tools for success in addition to covering the key theoretical components.

This programme includes 6 online modules and 2 separate on-site workshop weeks where you will be brought through the practical applications and demonstrations.

Master of Science in Sports Injuries & Return to Performance Management

The programme is designed and delivered to enable practitioners to progress within sports rehabilitation and performance contexts. The academic rigour will also allow students to progress to further academic study and academic careers in sports and exercise science, Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy, etc.

This programme includes 6 online modules and 2 separate on-site workshop weeks where you will be brought through the practical applications and demonstrations.

Master of Science in Applied Sports Biomechanics and Movement Science

In the growing field of athletic performance, the science of human movement within sport specific skills are continuing to become more significant. The MSc in Applied Sports Biomechanics and Movement Science will provide the student with the skills to critically evaluate the biomechanics of human movement as it pertains to the demands of different sports with the ultimate goal of enhancing human performance and reducing the risk of injuries.

Master of Science in Advanced Sports Coaching & Leadership

The skills developed as a coach are mainly gained through direct coaching practice in the real-world. Sometimes they are complemented with formal coach education. The blend of both formal coach education and the exposure to a real-life working environment is a powerful and ideal mix for the coach wherein they can draw from, reflect on and use their real world coaching experiences to complement their more formal learning and development. This unique programme of study considers and uses both approaches as its main focus.
